Expansion Joint Covers, or Expansion Joint Spray Shields, are used to prevent and contain a spray out should any part of the expansion joint fail, in particular, the bellows.
Expansion Joints are designed to flex, bend, contract, expand, and are often used in misaligned piping situations. These situations can turn catastrophic if not properly maintained, which explains why most manufacturers strongly recommend the use of Safety Spray Shields, and specifically mention details in their literature.
Accurate design and construction of Drake Expansion Joint Shields allow for movement, while maintaining proper fit and protection in hazardous systems.
Expansion Joint Shields are available in the same fabrics and styles as our Flange Shields. We recommend using our Clear PTFE model expansion joint cover that has a transparent Clear PTFE center strip to allow for complete visual inspection and for viewing of the bellows. In addition, this "See-thru" Shield can be made with an optional PTFE drain nipple, which can be connected to tubing for secondary containment applications.
Drake Specialties manufactures Expansion Joint Shields for all styles, sizes, and types of expansion joints, including rubber, stainless, or Teflon® bellowed models, regardless of manufacturer, contact Drake Specialties and one of our seasoned specialists will provide a Safety Shield solution for your application.
